When I read Marilyn's first column on the Game Show Host, I knew she was wrong. "She's completely neglected to take into account the motivations of the game show host!" It was so obvious to me, I didn't even bother to save the column or to write. "She'll get lots of letters on this one," I thought.
I realized right away that the math was correct. My problem was that Marilyn's answer implied that math was the only consideration.
When Marilyn's second column appeared on this topic, I was amazed that for the second time, there was no mention of the host's motivation. This time, I wrote a letter to Marilyn, but by that time, it was too late to catch Marilyn's attention. A third column was published on this topic, and again the host's motivation was ignored.
This, more than any other of Marilyn's mistakes, is what inspired me to begin this Web Site.
